The Iron Lady of Pakistan-Muniba Mazari
People can succeed against all odds if they try. Muniba Mazari has brought out such a true, real life, striking at the root of millions of strong, active, pessimists. This is not a fairy tale or a movie story. This is a real life story of indescribable suffering. Respecting his physical disability, today he is emerging as the Iron Man of Pakistan.
Muniba Mazari was born on March 3, 1987 in Rahim Yar Khan, Pakistan. His father was an artist and mother a housewife. He is the eldest among one sister and two brothers. He studied at Army Public School and completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rahim Yar Khan College, with the dream of becoming a painter. But at the age of eighteen, she got married to Pakistani pilot Khurram Shahzad on the wishes of her parents. Two years after the marriage, in 2007, Muniba Mazari was traveling with her husband Khurram Shahzad from Balochistan to her father's house in Rahim Yar Khan. On the way, Khurram Shahzad fell asleep while driving and the car fell into a ditch. Fortunately Khurram Shahzad was able to jump out of the car but Mazari was not so lucky. He was trapped in the car and was seriously injured. His right arm radius, shoulder bone, collar bone, ribs were all broken. Three bones of the spine were completely crushed. As no ambulance was found after the accident, he was taken to a nearby hospital in a jeep after two hours. But as there was no first aid facility and seeing his dire condition, the doctors took him out.
Then a second hospital also refused to admit him. He was then taken to Karachi and admitted to a hospital there. During this prolonged struggle with him, his spinal cord was completely severed from his lower body.
Muniba Mazari had to spend two and a half months in a hospital in Karachi. Those two and a half months in the hospital were the most miserable and nightmarish two and a half months of her life. During the course of treatment, one day the doctor came and informed him, “I heard that you wanted to be a painter, but there is bad news for you, your hand is severely injured and you will never be able to hold a pen again. That is, you will never be able to paint again.”
Hearing this, Muniba Mazari remained silent. The next day the doctor told him that his spinal cord injury was so severe that he would never be able to walk again. But Mazari was not at all prepared for what the doctor told him on the third day. The doctor tells her that she will never be able to give birth again as her spine and back bones are broken. Hearing this, he completely broke down, all the strength that was left was exhausted. He said to his mother, “Why me? Why with me?” She kept thinking, "A girl's life is incomplete without a child." At that moment, Muniba Mazari's mother became his greatest strength. He told her, “This bad time will pass. God must have a great plan for you. I don't know what it is, but it certainly is." Mother's words worked like magic for Muniba Mazari. He decided to patiently look forward. As a result, he is a role model for billions of people today.
After just two years of married life, a road accident changed her life. Muniba lost her mobility due to spinal cord injury. The doctor said, it is not possible for Muniba to become a mother again He pulled himself up at the last moment of despair He started to paint the dream in his tender heart on the canvas page by page. “Behind every successful film is an endless story of hardship, perseverance, effort and determination. There are many people around us who are constantly at war with themselves 24 hours a day. But we never realize it because of the constant smile on their faces. They never cry, they never complain and they never stop. I call such people warriors, who truly know the meaning of living and know how to live properly.”
With these words, Muniba Mazari started telling her life story on the stage of TEDEX Islamabad in 2015. Muniba Mazari popularly known as Iron Man of Pakistan is currently a painter, social worker, presenter, model, singer and a motivational speaker. This is such an enviable successful man, the story behind his success is not enviable at all, rather the story of tireless pain and struggle. Life brought Muniba Mazari mountains of obstacles and indescribable pains and sufferings but he thumbed through those pains and hardships and moved forward. মানুষ চেষ্টা করলে সমস্ত প্রতিকূলতা ডিঙিয়েও সফল হতে পারে। মুনিবা মাজারী তেমনি এক জীবন সত্যি, বাস্তব তুলে এনেছেন লক্ষ লক্ষ সবল,সচল,হতাশাবাদীতার মূলে আঘাত করে।এটি কোনো রূপকথার গল্প বা সিনেমার কাহিনীও নয়।এ এক অবর্ণনীয় কষ্টের বাস্তব জীবনের গল্প। নিজের শারীরিক অক্ষমতাকে সম্মান করেই আজ তিনি পাকিস্তানের লৌহ মানবী হিসেবে আত্মপ্রকাশ করছেন।
মুনিবা মাজারী পাকিস্তানের রহিম ইয়ার খানে ১৯৮৭ সালের ৩ মার্চ জন্ম গ্রহণ করেন। তার বাবা ছিলেন একজন শিল্পী এবং মা গৃহিণী। এক বোন দুই ভাইয়ের মাঝে তিনিই সবচেয়ে বড়। তিনি আর্মি পাবলিক স্কুলে পড়াশোনা করেন এবং রহিম ইয়ার খানের একটি কলেজ থেকে ফাইন আর্টসে ব্যাচেলর করেন, স্বপ্ন ছিল তার চিত্রশিল্পী হবার। কিন্তু মাত্র আঠার বছর বয়সেই পাকিস্তানি পাইলট খুররাম শাহাজাদের সঙ্গে বাবা মায়ের ইচ্ছায় তার বিয়ে হয়ে যায়।বিয়ের দু' বছর পর ২০০৭ সালের কথা, মুনিবা মাজারী তার স্বামী খুররাম শাহজাদের সাথে বেলুচিস্তান থেকে রহিম ইয়ার খানে তার বাবার বাড়িতে যাচ্ছিলেন। পথিমধ্যে খুররাম শাহজাদ গাড়ি চালাতে চালাতে ঘুমিয়ে পড়েন এবং গাড়িটি একটি খাদে পড়ে যায়। সৌভাগ্যবশত খুররাম শাহজাদ গাড়ি থেকে লাফ দিয়ে বের হতে সক্ষম হলেও মাজারীর সে সৌভাগ্য হয়নি। তিনি গাড়িতে আটকা পড়েন এবং মারাত্মকভাবে আহত হন।তার ডানহাতের রেডিয়াস আলনা, কাঁধের হাড়, কলার বোন, পাঁজরের সবগুলো হাড় ভেঙে যায়। মেরুদণ্ডের তিনটি হাড় সম্পূর্ণ চূর্ণ-বিচূর্ণ হয়ে যায়। দুর্ঘটনার পর পর কোনো এ্যাম্বুলেন্স খুঁজে না পাওয়ায় দু'ঘণ্টা পর একটি জিপগাড়ির পেছনে করে তাকে নিকটস্থ একটি হাসপাতালে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। কিন্তু সেখানে প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসার ব্যবস্থা না থাকায় এবং তার ভয়াবহ অবস্থা দেখে চিকিৎসকেরা তাকে সেখান থেকে বের করে দেন।
এরপর দ্বিতীয় একটি হাসপাতালও তাকে ভর্তি করতে অস্বীকৃতি জানায়। অতঃপর তাকে করাচি নিয়ে গিয়ে সেখানের একটি হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করানো হয়। তাকে নিয়ে এই টানা হেঁচড়ার সময় তার শরীরের নিচের অংশ থেকে তার স্পাইনাল কর্ডের সংযোগ সম্পূর্ণ বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়ে যায়।
করাচির হাসপাতালে মুনিবা মাজারীকে আড়াইমাস কাটাতে হয়। হাসপাতালের সেই আড়াইমাস ছিল তার জীবনের সবচেয়ে দুঃসহ ও দুঃস্বপ্নের আড়াইটি মাস। চিকিৎসা চলার সময় একদিন ডাক্তার এসে তাকে খবর দেন,“আমি শুনেছি আপনি একজন চিত্রশিল্পী হতে চাইতেন, কিন্তু আপনার জন্য একটি খারাপ খবর রয়েছে, আপনার হাত মারাত্মকভাবে জখম হওয়ায় আপনি আর কোনোদিন কলম ধরতে পারবেন না। অর্থাৎ, আপনি আর কোনোদিন ছবি আঁকতে পারবেন না।”
একথা শুনে মুনিবা মাজারী চুপ করে থাকেন। পরদিন ডাক্তার তাকে বলেন, তার মেরুদণ্ডের আঘাতটি এতোটাই প্রকট যে তিনি আর কোনদিন হাঁটতে পারবেন না। কিন্তু তৃতীয় দিন ডাক্তার তাকে যে কথাটি শোনান তার জন্য মাজারী একদমই প্রস্তুত ছিলেন না। ডাক্তার তাকে বলেন তার মেরুদণ্ড এবং পেছনের হাড়গুলো ভেঙে যাওয়ায় তিনি আর কোনোদিন সন্তান জন্ম দিতে পারবেন না। একথা শুনে তিনি সম্পূর্ণ ভেঙে পড়েন, যতটুকু শক্তি অবশিষ্ট ছিল সব যেন নিঃশেষ হয়ে যায়। তিনি তার মাকে বলেন, “আমিই কেন? আমার সাথেই কেন?” তিনি ভাবতে থাকেন, “বাচ্চা ছাড়া তো একটা মেয়ের জীবন পুরোটাই অসম্পূর্ণ।” সেই মুহূর্তে মুনিবা মাজারীর মা তার সবচেয়ে বড় শক্তি হয়ে দাঁড়ান। তিনি তাকে বলেন,“এই খারাপ সময়টা কেটে যাবে। স্রষ্টার অবশ্যই তোমার জন্য বড় কোনো পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে। আমি জানিনা সেটা কী, কিন্তু অবশ্যই রয়েছে।” মায়ের এই কথাগুলো যেন মুনিবা মাজারীর জন্য জাদুর মতো কাজ করে। তিনি ধৈর্য ধরে সামনে তাকানোর সিদ্ধান্ত নেন।ফলশ্রুতিতে তিনি আজ কোটি কোটি মানুষের জন্য জন্য একজন আদর্শ।
দাম্পত্য জীবনের মাত্র দু' বছরের মাথায় এক সড়ক দুর্ঘটনা বদলে দেয় তাঁর জীবন৷মেরুদণ্ডে চোট লাগায় চলাফেরার শক্তি হারিয়ে ফেলেছিলেন মুনিবা৷ ডাক্তার জানান, মুনিবার পক্ষে আর কখনো মা হওয়াও সম্ভব নয়৷ চূড়ান্ত হতাশায় তলিয়ে যাবার শেষ মুহূর্তে নিজেকে টেনে তোলেন তিনি৷ শুয়ে শুয়েই আঁকতে শুরু করেন তার কোমল হৃদয়ে গাঁথা স্বপ্ন ক্যানভাসের পাতায় পাতায়। গাইতে শুরু করেন৷ নিজের সন্তানহীনতার বেদনাকে মেনে নিয়ে দত্তক নেন এক সন্তান৷ কেবল ভালো থাকার জন্যই বাঁচবেন এ প্রতিজ্ঞা করে ডিভোর্স দেন স্বামীকে৷ বাঁচতে শুরু করেন প্রতি মুহূর্তের জন্য৷
নিজের সৃষ্টিশীলতা, জীবন দেখার অনন্য দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি তাঁকে পরিচিত করেছে পাকিস্তানের লৌহমানবী হিসেবে৷ তিনি এখন পাকিস্তানের ইউএন ওম্যানের শুভেচ্ছাদূত৷ ২০১৫ সালে বিবিসি’র সেরা ১০০ নারীর তালিকায় আসে তাঁর নাম৷ ২০১৬ সালে ফোর্বস ম্যাগাজিনেও নাম আসে তাঁর৷ তাঁর দেয়া বক্তব্য সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মাধ্যমে হাজার হাজারবার শেয়ার হয়েছে৷ জীবনের হার না মানা দিককে তুলে ধরে সারা পৃথিবীর মানুষের অনুপ্রেরণা উৎস হয়ে উঠেছেন তিনি৷
“প্রতিটা সফল ছবির পেছনেই রয়েছে এক অবিরাম বয়ে চলা কষ্ট, অধ্যবসায়, প্রচেষ্টা এবং স্থির সংকল্পের গল্প। আমাদের আশেপাশে অনেক মানুষ রয়েছে যারা প্রতিদিন ২৪ ঘণ্টা নিজেদের সাথে অনবরত যুদ্ধ করে চলেছে। কিন্তু তাদের মুখে লেগে থাকা সার্বক্ষণিক হাসির কারণে আমরা তা কখনোই বুঝতে পারি না। তারা কখনো কাঁদে না, তারা কখনো অভিযোগ করে না এবং তারা কখনো থেমে যায় না। আমি এই ধরনের মানুষগুলোকে যোদ্ধা বলি, যারা সত্যিকার অর্থেই বেঁচে থাকার অর্থ জানে এবং সঠিকভাবে বাঁচতে জানে।”
এই কথাগুলো বলেই মুনিবা মাজারী ২০১৫ সালে টেডেক্স ইসলামাবাদের মঞ্চে তার জীবনের গল্প বলা শুরু করেন। পাকিস্তানের লৌহমানবী নামে খ্যাত মুনিবা মাজারী বর্তমানে একজন চিত্রশিল্পী, সমাজকর্মী, উপস্থাপিকা, মডেল, গায়িকা এবং একজন অনুপ্রেরণাদায়ী বক্তা। এইযে এত ঈর্ষণীয় সফল একজন মানুষ, তার এই সফলতার পেছনের গল্পটা কিন্তু মোটেও ঈর্ষণীয় নয়, বরঞ্চ গল্পটি অবিশ্রান্ত কষ্টের এবং যুদ্ধের।জীবন মুনিবা মাজারীর সামনে এনে দিয়েছিল পাহাড় সমান বাধা এবং অবর্ণনীয় যন্ত্রণা ও কষ্ট কিন্তু তিনি সেই যন্ত্রণা ও কষ্টগুলোকে বুড়ো আঙুল দেখিয়ে এগিয়ে গিয়েছেন পেছনের থেকেও দ্বিগুণ গতিতে, তৈরি করেছেন নিজের পরিচয়, লালন করেছেন নিজের স্বপ্নকে এবং অনুপ্রেরণা হয়ে উঠেছেন জীবনে চলার পথে হোঁচট খাওয়া প্রতিটি মানুষের জন্য।
